Join Señora Burak and Señor Scalici as we explore the cultural influences and UNESCO World Heritage Sites of the Iberian Peninsula, starting in Barcelona, traveling throughout Southern Spain, and ending in Lisbon. The tour will begin on the Mediterranean coast in Barcelona, touring Gaudí's masterpieces, including la Sagrada Familia, Casa Batlló, and Parc Güell, before boarding the AVE high speed train to Córdoba. We will walk through the striped arches of the majestic Mezquita-Catedral and explore the Alcázar before taking in the views of the city from the Roman bridge. Our next stop will be Granada to marvel at the Moors’ architectural stylings and magnificently manicured gardens of La Alhambra. In Sevilla, we will climb the Giralda Tower of the Gothic Cathedral of Sevilla and view the gravesite of Columbus inside its cavernous interior. In the Plaza de España, we will admire the exquisite mosaic tile representations of each of the regions of Spain while wandering along the picturesque canal, ending the day with a Guadalquivir River cruise. After a brief stop in Italica to explore some ancient Roman ruins, our final destination will be Lisbon to traverse the hills of Portugal’s capital, experience Portuguese culture, and learn about the robust history of the Discoveries Period. Throughout the trip, we will practice our Spanish in authentic settings while buying picnic lunches in local markets (including La Boquería, Barcelona's oldest market) , snacking in cafés, strolling through parks, and completing city scavenger hunts. We will learn some Portuguese and put our culinary skills to the test during a cooking class in Lisbon.
