Ecuador: Andes and Amazon Adventure
March 31 - April 8, 2018
Join Sra. Burak and Sr. Scalici on an adventure tour where you will get to explore the ruggedness of the Andes and Amazon. The 9 day itinerary begins with a tour of Quito, Ecuador's capital, followed by a visit to la Mitad del Mundo to experiment with gravity at the center of the Earth. We will then head into the Amazon to hike through the rainforest and soak in the Papallacta volcanic hot springs. In the Amazon, we will also go to an animal rescue center to learn how endangered animals are rehabilitated as well as practice our Spanish in authentic settings as we visit the indigenous Kichwa community and volunteer in a rural school. In the Andes, we will hike around the Tungurahua and Cotopaxi volcanoes in addition to the Pailon del Diablo waterfall. You can also earn multiple CAS hours on the trip, or use your service hours for la Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica! To view the complete itinerary and sign up, visit www.explorica.com/burak-8733. The total cost includes round trip airfare, all ground transportation, hotel accommodations, site-seeing tours and site visits, 3 meals daily, and a full-time, bilingual tour guide.
Vaccination Information:
I highly recommend that student travelers are up to date on all routine vaccinations. Please visit the CDC website for more information about vaccinations. If you are interested in additional vaccines, please talk to your family doctor. We will be traveling to areas that are typical Ecuadorian tourist destinations, and are staying at hotels and eating in restaurants that Explorica has been using for years without incident. You may want to consider the yellow fever vaccine for our stay in Tena, which only needs to be administered once and must be given within 10 days of the trip. There are limited locations that offer the vaccine. Please see the information below for more details.
